Perm State Scientific and Research University Students Academic Choir (Perm, Russia)

Perm State Scientific and Research University Students Academic Choir was founded in 1948 by the student of biological department Vasily Volkov. From February of 2002 its artistic director is Petr Yurkov who graduated from Nizhny Novgorod Conservatoire.
The choir's participants are students of different departments, and many of the university graduates have started their professional music activity. The choir is actively touring in Russia and abroad. Since 1978 the collective took part in Tomsk, Leningrad (nowadays Saint Petersburg), Tallinn (Estonia), Kaunas (Lithuania), Grodno (Belarussia), Sofia and Plovdiv (Bulgaria). In 2004 the choir performed at III All-Russian festival of Universities Choirs in Izhevsk (Russia) and has been awarded by diploma of 2nd degree. In 2008 and 2011 the choir has taken part in III and VI All-Russian festivals of student and academic choirs "Vesnushka" (Yaroslavl). Concerts and performances of the choir became an integral part of the cultural life in Perm.



Conductor Petr Yurkov

Graduated from Nizhny Novgorod state conservatoire named after. M. Glinka in 1997, in 2002-2003 Petr was studying at the Directing department of Higher Theatre Institute named after B. Schukin. Since 1997 he works as a lecturer of Perm Music College, since 2004 he is the conductor of Perm Academic "Theatre-Theatre", since 2011 Petr is the conductor of Perm Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after P. Tchaikovsky. In 1999 he founded music theater "Orphey" (Orpheus). Petr is also the invited director of 4 concert programmes of Choral capella of Tyumen philharmonic (artistic director is A. Talantseva). Since 2002 he's the artistic director of Perm State Scientific and Research University Students Academic Choir. He's the laureate of National public prize "Serebryany Golub" (Silver dove), was awarded by the medal "For charity" of International Charitable Fund "Patrons of the Century".
