The mixed choir of one of North-West Russia’s main universities was founded in September 1962 by Georgy Teratsuyants, who was its unchallenged leader, artistic director and main conductor during 45 years. By its 50th anniversary Petrozavodsk State University Choir has toured all the cities of Republic Karelia as well as numerous places outside it. The Choir’s concert geography mentions Vilnius (Lithuania), Tartu (Estonia), Ogre (Latvia), Minsk (Belarussia), Finland, Sweden, Neubrandenburg (Germany), Linz (Austria), Provence (France), Thessaloniki (Greece), and russian cities Izhevsk, Zelenogorsk, Pskov, Vologda, Komi republic, Nizhny Novgorod, Murmansk, Apatity, Zhukovsky, Lubertsy, Saint Petersburg, Moscow.
Petrozavodsk State University Choir is a laureate of republican, national and international competitions and festivals. At present the Choir numbers about a hundred singers. Its repertoire varies from Russian sacred, classical and traditional music and Karelian composers’ works to foreign music including classical and contemporary pieces.



Conductor Nikolay Matashin

Nikolay Matashin is a graduate and post-graduate of Choral Conducting Department of Petrozavodsk State Aademy’s of Music. He works as Petrozavodsk State University Choir’s conductor and artistic director, is a lecturer at the Choral Conducting Department of the Music Academy and a regent of Ekaterina Church’s Choir.
